Andrew Seivewright
Born in 1926, Andrew Seivewright was a graduate of King's College, Cambridge, where he studied composition with Patrick Hadley. He spent thirty years as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Carlisle Cathedral. Whilst there, he founded the Abbey Singers, lectured for the University and worked for radio and television. He also founded a Cathedral Concert Series with the accent on contemporary music; Tippett, Maxwell Davies and Tavener made personal appearances with their music, as well as such ensembles as the London Sinfonietta and the choirs of King's and St. John's Cambridge. In later life, Andrew Seivewright played the organ at Grassmere Parish Church and spent much of his time composing. He died peacefully at home in December 2010.
