Christopher Maxim

Christopher Maxim was born in Wrexham, North Wales.

He was Organ Scholar and a prize winner at the University of Bristol and was awarded a research studentship to Cardiff University, where he completed his PhD in music in 1996. His other qualifications include the LMusTCL; Fellowships of London, Trinity and the Victoria Colleges of Music (FLCM, FTCL, FVCM); Fellowship of the College of Teachers (FCOT); and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Chris lectured at Cardiff University and the Royal Welsh College of Music Drama until 2000, when he moved to London. He taught music on Open University Summer Schools from 1996 until their termination in 2010. After completing a PGCE in Secondary Music at the Institute of Education of the University of London, he has taught for over a decade at a large comprehensive school in the East End, where he is Vice Principal.

Chris's compositional output includes choral music, instrumental music and songs. His music is performed in countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, the Channel Islands, Holland, Germany, South Africa and the USA; as well as throughout Great Britain. His music has also been broadcast on BBC radio; featured in music festivals; and performed in such prestigious venues as St Paul's Cathedral, London; the Usher Hall, Edinburgh; and at the Wanamaker Store in Philadelphia, USA. Chris's music is published by Allegro Music (choral music), Banks Music Publications (organ music), Recital Music (choral, vocal and instrumental music), Royal School of Church Music (choral music), St James Music Press (USA agents for the RSCM publications), Stainer & Bell (organ music & hymn-tunes), and online at scoreexchange.com.

He is Director of Music at St Matthew's, Bethnal Green and conducts the Giltspur Singers and the St Teilo Singers. He regularly writes reviews of CDs, new music and scholarly editions; and he has published scholarly articles on topics relating to keyboard and choral music.
