"In a world where mutability is the one thing on which we can rely, certain names carry with them an aura of comforting constancy: Banks (Music Publications) is a treasured example in the world of music, and their Eboracum Choral Series continues to be a wonderfully reliable resource".

Simon Lindley

Born in London in 1948, Simon Lindley sustains a considerable commitment to choral singing from his home base in Leeds. He is Master of the Music at historic Leeds Parish Church, a post he has held since 1975 and one that involves the direction of its world-famous Choir and of St Peter's Singers, an adult group founded in 1977 and now firmly established as one of the finest chamber choirs in the North of England. Over the years Simon has held posts with Leeds Philharmonic and Halifax Choral Societies and currently serves as Conductor of both Sheffield Bach Choir and Doncaster Choral Society as well as of community choruses in Halifax (Overgate Hospice Choir) and at Leeds College of Music. Simon is a much travelled special commissioner of the Royal School of Church Music and has directed RSCM courses on four continents, making many visits to the USA and South Africa as well as the Far East and, closer to home, in Europe and throughout the British Isles. A number of his small-scale liturgical pieces and traditional carol arrangements have achieved widespread popularity with choirs all over the world. He is a busy organist, as soloist and accompanist, and now one of very few players nationally still regularly accompanying oratorios on organ alone without the benefit of orchestral provision. Dr Lindley's career began in the City of London during student days at the Royal College of Music and he retains very strong links with the City to this day. Prior to moving to Yorkshire, he was Peter Hurford's first full time assistant at St Albans Cathedral and also Director of Music to St Albans School. Among a number of awards, Simon holds honorary doctorates from Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield; the citation from the latter, conferred in July this year, specifically refers to his contribution to choral singing, locally, nationally and internationally. His term-time weekly schedule includes eight choir practices and at least six choral service with the boys and men of the Parish Church Choir and at least one early morning session with the Key Stage Two children of the Parish Church's Primary School, St Peter's, at the heart of the inner-city.
