Percy Whitlock (1903-46) was one of the outstanding organist-composers of his generation. His music is notable for its freshness and vitality, rooted firmly in the English pastoral diatonic tradition. Whitlock broadcast frequently for the BBC and was highly regarded as a composer, player and teacher.
This volume (first published in 1998) is the result of twenty years' research. In addition to being a biography it surveys Whitlock's considerable musical output in a wide variety of genres, and traces his development as a composer and player.
There are over 100 music quotations and some 60 black & white photographs in this newly-revised second edition. It also includes an updated discography and list of works.
