Mo chasan dubh
John Hearne
SATB or SAATB (Unacc')
The White Swan's Lullaby
The song was recorded in 1937 in the Gaelic-speaking area of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. It probably originated in the island of Barra.
In John Hearne's arrangement the accompanying voices sing repeated phrases which are of different lengths, to illustrate the confusion of drowsiness. Finally the voices suggest the beating of the swan's wings as it departs.
