“Rather than leave the best wine to the end for once, I mention first a fine Adagio by Leslie Betteridge… which would make a splendid piece for any elegaic occasion or memorial service. Loosely based on two plainsong themes, one of which is the opening from Missa pro Defunctis Introit, this rhapsodical work builds up to an exciting climax, and is not too difficult: the writing is warm and rich, and organ colour needs to be exploited, although the instrument need not be large.” – RSCM Church Music Quarterly
